A relatively small amount of sparkling wine is made in this region under the appelation Cremant de Bordeaux which was known, before 1990, as Bordeaux Mousseux. Around only 1% of Bordeaux wine production is results in Cremant sparkling wine, represented by around around 160 wineries. There are two primary grape varieties used in the production of white Cremant; semillion (60%) and sauvignon (40%). Rose Crement utilises cabernet grapes (70%) and merlot (30%).
